Building Resilient Teams
Practical strategies & tools for leaders
Overview
Strong teams do not happen by chance: they are built through intentional leadership practices that foster trust and well-being. However, even the most cohesive teams can be challenged by layoffs, critical incidents, organizational change, and other disruptions that strain relationships and lower morale.
Based on the work of organizational health specialist Dr. Patricia Fisher and her book Building Resilient Teams, this highly interactive session provides leaders with practical tools and strategies to strengthen team well-being.
Grounded in trauma research and organizational psychology, this training combines discussion, reflection, and small-group activities to help leaders build healthier, more robust teams.
More than just a leadership session, this is an applied, hands-on workshop that equips leaders with the skills to implement the Building Resilient Teams manual within their organizations.
Each participant will receive a copy of the manual, along with access to the TEND Toolkit to support continued learning and implementation.

The Truth About Burnout (and How to Manage It)
Strategies to improve staff well-being and job health
Overview
As the term burnout has settled into popular use, its definition has drifted from its intended meaning. Burnout is often used as an umbrella term for any negative work-related stress. However, this oversimplification risks obscuring other important factors that are amplifying stress and distress in our teams. For example, the most effective strategies for mitigating burnout may have no effect on mitigating experiences of secondary traumatic stress.
Additionally, research shows that an overemphasis on individual self-care practices as a solution to burnout is not only ineffective, but may lead to resentment and attrition.
This training is aimed at leaders who wish to develop a fuller understanding of where burnout fits in the constellation of factors that contribute to occupational stress. It provides strategies and tools to improve well-being and job health for teams and organizations.
Key Learnings
- Understand the importance of embedding a trauma-informed approach throughout the organization.
- Be aware of common barriers and misconceptions about trauma-informed practices.
- Learn best practices for developing an organization-wide trauma-informed approach.
Trauma-Informed Practice for Leaders
Laying the groundwork for a trauma-informed organization
Overview
Ensuring our organization is built on the foundations of trauma-informed practice (TIP) is essential for providing responsive, ethical, and compassionate service. Although research has shown that TIP can improve health outcomes and engagement, this is only true when a trauma-informed approach is implemented comprehensively across an organization. How do we begin the journey towards becoming a trauma-informed organization while avoiding an ineffective, check-the-box approach?
This training is aimed at leaders who are looking for resources and strategies to lay the groundwork for becoming a trauma-informed organization.
